Community Blood Drive

FOICR has scheduled a 'Community Blood Drive' on Saturday March 3, 2012 from 10 AM to 1:30 PM at The Hindu Temple, 1700 Naoma Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids. We are inviting you all to make this event successful by signing up to donate. By giving blood, you could help save the lives of three different patients. (The Blood Center makes multiple products from each donation.) Won't you join us?
Patients in our community rely on volunteer blood donors like you to provide an adequate supply of this critical, lifesaving resource. Will you give, please?

FOICR Republic Day Celebrations 2012
This is the first event by the new executive committee. The turn out was fantastic. Everybody liked the venue mainly because of the stage and comfortable seats.
Our chief guest Prof. Philip Lutgendorf captivated everyone present with his knowledge of India and Hindi.
Our Balavikas kids (and the teachers and parents) added color to the occasion by dressing up the kids according to famous Indian freedom fighters, kings, queens and other famous personalities of the past.
I think we did our best to bring us all together on this occasion. And it was a good testing ground for the new EC committe.

Dey Ghumakay FOICR Cricket Tournament 2011
Its time for our Dey Ghumakay FOICR Cricket Tournament 2011. Last year we had an amazing participation and HCL team from Rockwell Collins won the tournament.
Same as before we are planning to make this event a fun filled outing for everyone. We are also planning for some food and refreshment for everyone. Did I mention you can win an iPad2? Be there or be left out.
Rules
1. Taped Tennis ball/Hard Tennis Ball will be used for the tournament. All the cricket kit will be provided by FOIACR.
2. $55.00 Entry fee need to be paid before playing this tournament. Kindly make the check payable to “Friends of India Association of Cedar Rapids” and hand it over to Shomi Agarwal or Parvath Reddy or Siva Sattanathan or any of the FOICR Executive Committee members before your game. A team cannot have more than 3 Iowa league cricket players in it.
3. Tournament will be conducted on June 4th and 5th at Seminole valley park, Cedar Rapids.
4. Format & Schedule will be published on Thursday June 2nd.
5. Balls will be provided. Ground will be set up with Boundaries and Stumps. Kindly arrange bats for your team.
6. If you are interested individual and don't have a team yet, then send us an email and we will try to place you in a team.
8. The trophies in the picture are rolling trophies and will need to be handed over to FOICR sports secretary on or before 1st August 2011. Team members/Performers will be presented with Individual trophies/Medals that they can keep for themselves.
9. We will have a raffle ticket ($20.00 each) and winner of the raffle ticket will get IPAD2!!

We are planning on Selling raffle tickets ($20.00 each) with a chance to win an Apple® - iPad® 2 with Wi-Fi - 16GB. Winner will be decided at the time of the Finals at Seminole Valley Cricket Ground on June 5th (around 3:00 PM). Need not be present to win. Rules:
1. As we need to finish too many games within a weekend, kindly be sensitive to the game timings.
2. Teams must be at the ground 15 minutes before their scheduled start time of their match. If during the start time a team is not present, the game will be awarded to the opponents.
3. No LBW. No Free hit.
4. 15 overs per innings. 3 overs maximum per bowler.
5. Each win gets 2 points, Tie gets 1 point, Loss gets 0 points
6. Top 4 teams qualify for semi finals. If more than 1 team end up in same points, net run rate will decide the standings.
7. For Finals, it is 20 Overs per innings and 4 overs max per bowler.
8. Umpires decision is final.
9. Each innings (15 overs) should be finished in 45 minutes. Incase if the team doesn’t finish their quota of 15 overs within 45 minutes the organizers MAY opt to reduce the number of overs while chasing. Organizers have the final say on this rule.
10. Please pay the tournament fees of 55$ before the match starts.
11. Finally support cricket and help us out by buying raffle ticket to win an iPad2. To purchase ticket please contact coordinators.
P.S: Since there are every chance that more teams can end up with 1 win, net run rate might come in to picture when deciding the teams that qualify for semi finals. Captain’s please take a note.

On behalf of FOICR I would like to thank each and every Participant and Supporter for their enthusiasm and effort.
The scorching heat did not shake the determination with which the 10 participating teams played and we saw some quality cricket throughout the weekend!
Grilled chicken and Grilled veggie patty was definitely the icing on the cake!
Team HCL emerged out as the winner !! and Coralville Cricket club was the runner-up in a nail-biting final which we witnessed.

| Format | MadHatter: All the players will be divided into teams randomly. Each team will play 1 match(25 points) in the first round. The winning team members will get 1 point each. After the end of first round. All the players will be again randomly divided into teams and will precede to play another round of matches. We will play as many rounds of matches as possible. Top 6 players with maximum points will be awarded as winners of the tournament. |

Children’s Day-Balavikas- Masti Mela (Nov 13,2010)
Dear Kids,
You are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fun filled and action-packed activities from 11 am – 3 pm, Saturday, Nov 13 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 155 Boyson Road, Marion. In celebration and memory of Pandit Nehru’s birthday, the Children’s Day festivities will start with contests for each age group followed by your favorite pizza lunch. The real action begins thereafter with a Hula Hoop Contest, Bingo, Carnival games and so much more. There will also be clown to entertain kids of all ages. Hope you will come to meet your friends and make many new ones.

Guidelines:
- Kids must RSVP for carnival via FOICR Evite invitation so that we can make adequate arrangements.
- Only FOICR member kids can participate in competitions, but non FOICR members can participate in everything else.
- There is entry ticket price of $5 per child of age 3 and above for Non FOICR member. No fees for parents.
- Member Kids entering contests must register their names to participate in competition no later than Oct 17th, 7pm to respective group coordinators.
- Must be able to attend the Children’s day event on Nov.13th in order to participate in any competitions.

A full of fun event involving every member of your team. You get a chance to show your driving, analytical, traffic rules and road skills. Knowledge of Cedar Rapids locations and puzzle solving skills will be a great plus.
